Thousand Lakes RV, Torrey — October 9-12, 2020

Special thanks to our hosts, Steve and Cindy MacKenzie for another fun & successful UWAC rally.  Thousand Lakes in Torrey was the site of the initial UWAC rally in 2016, so it’s a club favorite.  Club members enjoyed a host of rally activities including morning coffee each day and a very nice pot-luck dinner.  The entire area surrounding Torrey is a scenic wonderland and members enjoyed hikes and sightseeing in Capitol Reef National Park and many points beyond.  We appreciated the many new members who have attended rallies in 2020 as we continue to expand our circle of friends and fellow Airstream enthusiasts in the club.  If you haven’t made it to a rally yet, please join us in 2021 — you won’t be disappointed!

Singletree Campground, Boulder Mountain — September 10-13, 2020

Arranging a “No-host” rally is really simple… and we just had a great one on the Boulder Mountain (near Torrey, Utah) at the Singletree Campground.  Eight UWAC trailers gathered for 3 nights of camping at a very scenic Forest Service campground surrounded by Ponderosa Pine.  There was no formal agenda but the group gathered each evening to talk around the fire about the day’s adventures and to share insights into camping equipment and places to camp / visit.  We enjoyed beautiful blue sky days with fall-like weather (cooler nights & mornings) that also offered the chance to test-out the trailer heater.

Folks took advantage of the numerous scenic attractions in the area including Singletree Falls hike, Capitol Reef, Notom Road, Burr Trail, Highway 12, Wildcat Guard Station, Blind Lake (hiking/fishing), the Anasazi Museum and Hell’s Backbone Grill in Boulder, and so much more.  The night skies were simply spectacular with no moon and a very clear view of the Milky Way from horizon to horizon.

One of the club members noted how they would not have stayed at Singletree but for the club “no-host” rally and how pleasantly surprised they were with how nice and scenic it truly was. This clearly demonstrates the value of arranging a “no-host” —  sharing your favorite camping spots with others in the club (plus getting out to see our many club friends.)  It’s a great way to help one another explore our Pretty Great State.

Bryce Canyon National Park (Ruby’s Inn), Aug. 13 – 17, 2020

That was fun and a relief from the summer heat!  15 club members from Utah and surrounding states rallied at Ruby’s Inn RV Park just outside Bryce Canyon National Park.  The group had a wonderful time with a pot-luck dinner, several get togethers, a 2.5 mile hike on the very scenic Navajo / Queen’s Garden trail, bike rides to Inspiration Point and down through Red Canyon, a scavenger hunt, and lots of camaraderie and new friendships.  This is a very fun group!  Special thanks to our hosts, Barb & Jim Powell.

😉  We held our UWAC club dinner on November 9, 2019 at Pat’s BBQ in Salt Lake.  We had a great turn-out (photo below) and discussed all the exciting activities (rallies and mini-caravan) planned for 2020.  The BBQ dinner was delicious and we also took care of our officer installations for next year.  Thanks to all of the individuals who continue to step-up and support the club in a variety of roles.  Great year in 2019 but even bigger things planned for 2020.  Safe travels and see you on down the road!  😉

“Summer on the Old Spanish Trail” (Fish Lake), Aug. 23-26, 2018

Another fun rally!  Several club members enjoyed a weekend rally at the beautiful Doctor Creek group campground at Fish Lake in the Fishlake National Forest in central Utah.  The group enjoyed hiking, biking, boating, fishing and exploring local attractions in the area including a scenic hike in Capitol Reef National Park.  Fish Lake is one of Utah’s largest natural lakes covering 2,500 acres, famous for 20 to 30 pound Mackinaw lake trout as well as other smaller species like Kokanee salmon and Rainbow trout.

Special thanks to our rally co-hosts, Jeanne & Keith Lund and Holly & Ron Jorgensen.

“Salem Bound!” Mini-Caravan, June 19-22, 2018

Brigham City, UT to Salem, OR – WBCCI InternationalThis was great fun… let’s do it again.  In late June, nine Airstream trailers and motorhomes from UWAC set-out from Brigham City towards Salem with stops at first-rate RV parks in Caldwell, Idaho (Ambassador RV) and Pendleton, Oregon (Wildhorse Casino RV). Group members traveled independently but we rallied each night at our RV camp and shared stories of the day. Club members visited a variety of places like the Twin Falls Visitor Center, Baker Heritage Museum, Pendleton Woolen Mills, and the Bonneville Dam Fish Hatchery in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.  The group had a fun and successful caravan — see the complete story in the July newsletter (Newletter tab.)

“Airstreams and Arches” Spring Rally, May 3-6, 2018

Moab Valley RV Resort, Moab, UT – Wow, that was fun… and perfect weather too!  Our first rally of the season was held in beautiful Moab, Utah at the Moab Valley RV Resort.  We had a great turn-out and nearly perfect weather for hiking and sightseeing.  We had a variety of activities including a group hike up Grandstaff Canyon to Morning Glory Bridge, Cinco de Mayo celebration, and a cruise on the Colorado River complete with dinner and a light show.  It was really fun to meet several new club and affiliate members.  Here are a few photos from our rally (see our Facebook page for lots more cool photos / videos):

NOTE:  CORONA ARCH

Special thanks to our gracious hosts for this rally: Bonnie and John Ruskauff.  They did a fantastic job with location booking and detailed rally planning (plus they have a cool new Pendleton trailer to go with their cool pink flamingo hats)!!  This was truly a great rally — don’t miss out on Moab the next time we have a UWAC rally here. Moab is scenic fun, fun, fun…

Breakfast with the Service Techs at Airstream of Utah, Sat. March 24, 2018

A large gathering of AS owners turned-out for the free breakfast and presentation by certified Airstream technicians at the Airstream of Utah dealership.  UWAC club members and other AS owners learned about exterior maintenance, as well as pointers on electrical systems, batteries, plumbing drains, tires, hitches and other AS matters.  Thanks to the knowledgeable service techs for answering all of the questions from the AS owners who attended.

Thanks to the Airstream of Utah dealership and UWAC for co-hosting this fun and informative event.

UWAC End-of-Season Party:  November 4, 2017

Nearly 30 club members gathered at the beautiful Airstream of Utah showroom for our UWAC end-of-season party.  Special thanks to Dennis and Laura Decker, new owners of Airstream of Utah, for graciously hosting us at our annual event.  It was especially fun to get to visit with them and fellow club members, dine on Cafe Rio Mexican food, and reminisce about the great fun we had together in 2017!

As part of club business, we confirmed our new slate of officers and directors for the upcoming 2018 year.  See the updated list of officers under the Officers tab on the web-site.  Special thanks to Ben Schofield for his dedication as President the past 2-years.  Congratulations to Julie Schofield and the rest of the officers for their new roles.

Most importantly, we shared information on the current slate-of-events for the club in 2018.  We’re excited to kick-off the season in May at the Airstreams and Arches Spring Rally, and then proceed in June with a Unit Caravan to the WBCCI International Rally in Salem, Oregon.  See the Rally Schedule tab for more information on 2018 plans.

“Blast from the Past” Fall Rally:  September 29 – October 1, 2017

Holy cow!  Who knew this group of adults could be so much fun!  A great group of UWAC members and friends from neighboring states gathered at Bear Lake State Park (Big Creek Campground) for a weekend of games and camaraderie.  We enjoyed a chili cook-off, scavenger hunt, costume party, campfire with s’mores, games/prizes galore, and lots of good food & company.  Special thanks to our fantastic co-hosts, Joan and Steve Brinton and Linda and Ron Seitz, for such an energetic and well-planned rally!  Special thanks to Linda Seitz for her beautiful hand-crafted UWAC quilt which was raffled-off and won by Lorri Karpinski.

“History on the Rocks” Summer Rally: August 11-13, 2017

Twelve UWAC and affiliated members joined together for a fun and educational tour of Nine Mile Canyon.  The group stayed in the beautiful Kokopelli campground at Nine Mile Ranch.  The canyon is an extraordinary outdoor museum with remarkable pictographs and petroglyphs throughout.  We were fortunate enough to be guided by the owner of Nine Mile Ranch, Ben Mead, who has worked and explored the canyon for over 60 years.  The experience was truly remarkable and memorable, up to and including the elaborate Dutch oven dinner on Saturday night.  A great time was had by all – great fun and fellowship!

“Party on the Paunsugunt” Spring Rally: May 18-21, 2017

Great turn-out and fun, despite some chilly and challenging weather (Springtime in the Rockies, you know.)  In addition to the standard suite of club get-togethers, the rally had a number of fun activities including a 8 mile hike around Fairlyland Loop in Bryce Canyon, sun and stargazing, and some musical talent sharing.  There are some impressive chefs and cooks in the group, as the quality of food sharing was simply fantastic, right up to the dutch oven dessert at the breakfast on the last day.   This is a fun and diverse group with folks with a broad set of interests (did you ever want to view a celestial object that’s 35 million light-years away?  Well, here was your chance to view the M65 galaxy.)  It was extremely fun getting to know our fellow Airstreamers here in Utah and surrounding states, including great folks from New Mexico and Wyoming.  Thanks for braving the weather!!

Utah’s Wasatch Airstream Club “Lucky 13” Rally, September 15 – 18, 2016

Several club members enjoyed a sunny, fun and relaxing Airstream rally at Palisade State Park just outside of Manti, Utah. We enjoyed a dry camping rally in the Sandpitch group area complete with happy hours, barbecue, and guitar playing around the campfire. Palisade is a great setting for just about everyone — golfing, fishing, paddle boats, jr. ranger program, geocache, a 5k race on Saturday, ATV rentals, and a whole lot more!

Utah’s Wasatch Airstream Club “Spring Fling” Rally, May 13 – 15, 2016

That’s us in Torrey, Utah… a good time had by all.  😎

“We do not want merely to see beauty… We want something else which can hardly be put into words — to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bath in it, to become part of it.”
